Vacancy: orchid books data search and entry

 

The Company

Our website, orchid-books.com, is a new comparison shopping service for those interested in books about orchids. It is 100% similar to our old project, cactus-books.com, (established on December 12, 1999) which proved our business model successful. This is how it works, in a nutshell: We have a catalogue of books on a certain topic (in this case, orchids). There is a separate page for each orchid book (e.g. Fundamentals of Orchid Biology), with detailed book description and a list of booksellers who offer that book for sale. The list of booksellers is ordered by price, with best offers on top. There is "ORDER..." link next to each offer. When visitors click on that "ORDER..." link and order a book from that bookseller, we earn sales commission, from 5% to 10% of the book price.
 

What to do

We need descriptions of books about orchids for our catalogue. There is a standard online form to be filled for each book. We are looking for a person to do this job. The following is needed to be done:
  1. Make up a list for yourself of at least 300 books about orchids. This should be easy: amazon.com returns over 700 results if you try to search for "orchids".
  2. For each book in your list, fill the standard online form which we will provide. You will need to find the following information about each book:
    • ISBN
    • Title
    • Author(s)
    • Binding (softbound or hardbound)
    • Number of pages
    • Short book description
    The following additional information, if available, should also be entered for each book:
    • Subtitle
    • Publication year
    • Book size
    • Number of color photos, b/w photos, drawings and maps
    • Table of contents
    • List price
    • Cover image (jpg file)
 

Payment

We will pay $300.00 (USD) for the first 300 orchid books properly described, and $2.00 for each additional one.
 

Requirements

A successful candidate should match the following requirements:
  • Should have no difficulty using search engines
  • Should have at least basic knowledge of orchids
  • Should be able to dedicate at least 30 minutes per day to do this job (you can dedicate more time if you want to complete the job and get your payment faster)
 

Terms and Conditions

Should fill the form for at least 300 orchid books to qualify for payment. Different editions of the same title do not count. Only scientific and horticultural orchid books, no fiction please. All mandatory information listed in section 2 above should be found and entered for each book. The reasonable effort should be made to find and enter additional information for each book (see section 2 above, under "additional information"). If additional information is not provided by you, but is freely available from amazon.com or otherwise on the internet, we reserve the right not to pay for that particular entry. You can request payment at any time after you complete description of at least 300 orchid books. Payment will be sent by Western Union international money order, to any location in the world.
 

Option for residual income

After you complete the job and receive the payment, you will have an option to join orchid-books.com to get a share of our income on a permanent basis. If you choose this option we will still pay you $2.00 for each properly described orchid book. In addition to that, we will pay 50% of our sales commissions we get from amazon.com, generated by sales of books which you previously described for our catalogue. To qualify for this permanent position you should match the following requirements:
  • Should properly fill the form for at least 500 orchid books (this is $700.00 already received by you, see "Payment" above)
  • Should monitor new orchid books published, and promptly add their descriptions to the catalogue (this is the easy part)
  • Should be the contact person for orchid-books.com and promptly reply to visitors' emails, or forward them to us if their messages are not about orchid books
  • Should promptly notify us of any errors on the website or other issues requiring attention
 

Payment of residual income

If you choose and qualify for the permanent position with orchid-books.com, you will get two payments per year, in the end of June and in the end of December. The payment will include $2.00 for each orchid book properly described during that six months, plus 50% of our commissions we earn from amazon.com during the previous six-month period, from sales of orchid books described by you. You will receive payment indefinitely, as long as you monitor new orchid books and perform other dutied described above. You will not be paid if you do not reply to visitors' emails or do not describe newly published books, or otherwise quit you permanent position.
